The Chain
The ViKing Titanium Chain has been designed as the world's lightest bicycle chain and is compatible with 7 and 8 speed indexing derailleur systems from such manufacturers as Campagnolo, Sachs, Shimano and Sun Tour. ViKing has been able to produce this ultra-light, high strength and durable chain through uniquely combining the use of non-corroding, proprietary titanium and hardened stainless steel materials. This chain also features hollow pins for lightness and chamfered link plates for enhanced front and rear shifting. It is suitable for both road and off-road use. The ViKing Titanium Chain is a 1/2 x 3/32" [12.7 x 2.38 mm] chain with 116 links. Unlike some other lightweight chains on the market, it meets the international strength standards, and depending on the type and frequency of use and maintenance, the durability of the ViKing Titanium Chain may actually exceed that of steel chains. ViKing has tested numerous combinations of different designs and materials in their search to make the world's lightest, durable chain. Link plates are stamped from a proprietary titanium material which is even stronger than 6AI-4V titanium. The inner and outer link plates are chamfered to help guide the chain onto the gear teeth during shifting. Rollers are made of 6AI-4V titanium. The centerless ground rivet pins are hollow and made of hardened stainless steel. Stainless steel was chosen for both the rivets and sleeves because of its toughness and superior durability as a bearing material. The sleeves are polished on both inner and outer surfaces to minimize friction.
